Mohamed Shahdy Anwar, Managing Partner

Mr. Mohamed Shahdy Anwar read Law at the University of Bristol in England (LLB, Hons) and at the National University of Singapore (LLM, Corporate and Financial Services Law).

Mr. Anwar has since been working in private legal practice advising various corporations and entities on a wide variety of corporate and commercial issues ranging from advising investors on project financing for tourism and infrastructure projects, to advising major international banks and financial institutions on lending for projects in the Maldives and abroad and also in related litigation.

Mr. Anwar also has worked closely with the Law Commission of Maldives and various Government bodies on the drafting of both the Education Act and Intellectual Properties Act for the Maldives. Mr. Anwar also has extensive drafting experience, in preparing structured finance and syndicated loan documentation, bidding and awards documentations.

Mr. Anwar has also been a lecturer in administrative law and tort law at the Faculty of Sharia and Law of the Maldives College of Higher Education and a lecturer of English Legal System and Business Law at the Faculty of Management and Computing and the same college.

Mr. Anwar also servers as member of the Board of Directors of Gulhifalhu Industrial Zone Limited and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thilafushi Corporation Limited. Gulhufalhu Industrial Zone Limited and Thilafushi Corporation Limited are both 100% state owned corporations.

Mizna Ahmed, Partner

Ms. Ahmed read her degree of Bachelor of Laws with Honors at the University of Bristol and completed her graduate studies at the National University of Singapore where she successfully completed the degree of Master of Laws.

Upon the completion of her studies, she had worked at various institutions and most recently she had been a legal consultant to the UNDP in the Maldives after which she had been working at the Maldives Human Rights Commission, where she advised the commission on various legal and policy issues.

With six years of experience post graduation, Ms. Ahmed has advised various clients, both local and international on administrative, legislative and complex commercial issues.

Ahmed Muizzu

Mr. Ahmed Muizzu read law at the International Islamic University in Malaysia (LLB, Hons) and at the IMLI at Malta (LLM with distinction)

Mr. Muizzu has outstanding experience on Maldives law and legal system. His experience in Maldivian law and justice began when he was appointed as an attorney at the Attorney-General’s Office, Republic of Maldives, in 1990. After several years of service as an attorney he was appointed as Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions in 1994. In 1997 Mr. Muizzu was appointed as the Chief Judge of the Criminal Court in Male’ in 1997. In 1999 Mr. Muizzu left the judicial service and joined the Ministry of Tourism as the lead legal counsel.

Mr. Muizzu also served as a member of The Law Commission of Maldives from Novemebr1994 till May 2002. As a member of the Maldives Law Commission he has participated in drafting various legislation, including the Companies Act of Maldives, Partnership Act, Family Law Act, Land Law Act, Dangerous Drugs Act Consumer Protection Act and Tourism Act. Mr. Muizzu also served as an elected member of the constitutional assembly (Peoples’ Special Majlis) that adopted the 1998 Constitution of the Republic of Maldives.

As part of his general corporate law practice, Mr. Muizzu advises on various aspects of joint ventures, financing and foreign investment issues. Active in the project finance and resort/hotel sale and lease, he has represented sellers, investors, management companies and financial institutions. His experience in project finance includes projects relating to transport, telecommunications, fisheries and water & sewerage. His experience in resort/hotel sale and lease includes most of the major such transactions in the Maldives.

Mr. Ahmed Muizzu was the Managing Partner of the firm from its incorporation till September 2008 when he left the firm to serve the country as its first Prosecutor General. We thank him for his services to the firm and wish him well in all his future endeavors.

 

Husnu Al-Suood

Mr. Husnu Al-Suood read Law at the International Islamic University in Malaysia (LLB, Hons) and at the University of Queensland in Australia (LLM).

Mr. Al-Suood has been closely associated with law and justice for many years. His experience in Maldivian law and justice began when he was appointed as an Assistant to the Attorney-General at the Attorney-General’s Office, Republic of Maldives, in 1988. Since July 1994, Mr. Al-Suood served as a State Attorney at the Attorney-General’s Office until he was appointed as the Chief Judge of the Civil Court in Male’ in 1997. In 1999 Mr. Al-Suood left the judicial service to start his private law practice.

Mr. Al-Suood also served as a member of The Maldives Law Commission from Novemebr1994 till May 2002.
